Giving Women the Mans Role

In the book Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, it's the story of Nick and Amy on their fifth wedding anniversary, and mysteriously, Amy disappears.  The point of view alternates between Nick in the present and Amy in the past through diary entries.

Every chapter there is some sort of twist and turn. Two words I can use to describe this book is PLOT TWIST. You'll never see whats coming next. Gillian Flynn did a fantastic job of always keeping the reader on their feet. You never know what the characters are completely thinking and she makes you use your own  mind.

A big part of this book is whether it can be portrayed as misogynist or not.  In the concluding chapters, the true Amy comes out and she is truly a psychopathic-b*itch. Some believe that Flynn is a misogynist and she doesn't like women for the parts she gives the characters in her books.  From my point of view, I think that women can play the parts of men. Every once in a while, the woman can be the bad guy. It gives a little twist to typical literature, with the common male villain.

Overall, Gone Girl is a must-read. It's a crime story with a twist, and an unusual "love" story.  From the different points of views and the crazy roller coaster of an investigation, this book will want you to keep turning pages to see what happens next.

Books vs. e-readers

Only when I began to use the Nook, in which my class had been given for a new course in school, had I began to miss actual books.  Of course, having an e-reader made access to any book as simple as a click of a button, and have any word defined to you, but having the feel to an actual book became more intense.  The feeling of accomplishment you get when you close a book may not be the most exhilarating thing, but it's a small task you've defeated. With the e-readers, more particularly the Nook, all you get is the little numbers on the bottom on the screen to match up.  Also, you're sense of control over the book is diminished. There's no flipping back to a certain page, or skipping forward to see how much longer the chapter will continue. But either way, however you like it, the choice is yours...books or ee-readers?

Why Read...

Why Read? Well, why think? or breathe? or speak? You read everyday without even realizing. It may not be a book but a text message or a billboard or  even just the bathroom "girls" or "boys" sign. Reading offers alot, especially when reaing books.

Books and novels offer a few pages to a whole nother world. It can be a 16th century story of kings and queens, or a futuristic battle between aliens and robots.  The vast array of genres leave a reader with a choice of which world they'd like to jump into next. There is a book for everyone and it allows them the freedom to become detectives, artists, lovers, friends, princes and princess, or anything you could think of. Books give you the oppurtunity to let your imagination run wild and become things you could only dream of.

Reading is a key to life. Whether you enjoy it or not is up to you. But think, every cover page you open up, is an oppurtunity for your mind to build a new world. Open up, turn the Paige, there is much waiting on the other side.
